Lesson 7

Welcome to Lesson 7!

Ready to invite others, offer help, describe things in more detail, and explain why you are going somewhere? Lesson 7 at gokigen japanese blog will equip you with versatile expressions to make your Japanese conversations more interactive and descriptive.

The main goals of this lesson are to enable you to:

  • Understand and use expressions for suggestion and invitation.
  • Understand and express more complex descriptions of things and people.
  • Understand and express the purpose of movement.

Key grammar patterns and expressions you will learn include:

  • Suggestions & Invitations: Learn how to propose doing something together using V(stem) + ましょう (mashou – Let’s do ~) and V(stem) + ませんか (masen ka – Why don’t we ~?). You will also learn how to offer help using V(stem) + ましょうか (mashou ka – Shall I ~?).
  • More Complex Descriptions:
    • Use the pattern N1 は N2 が Adj です to describe a specific feature of something or someone (e.g., 日本は食べ物がおいしいです – As for Japan, the food is delicious).
    • Connect multiple adjectives and nouns smoothly using their te-forms (形容詞 / 名詞のテ形) (e.g., 若くて元気です – is young and energetic; 学生でアルバイトをしています – is a student and works part-time).
  • Purpose of Movement: Learn how to state the reason for your trip or visit using V(stem) + に行く / 来る (ni iku / kuru – go/come to do ~) (e.g., 映画を見に行きます – I’m going to see a movie).

By the end of Lesson 7, you’ll be able to suggest going out with friends, offer someone assistance, describe people and things by highlighting specific characteristics, and explain your reason for going to a particular place. These skills add nuance and depth to your Japanese!
